A Cisco Route/Switch Network Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure using Cisco technologies. Here's a typical job description for such a position:

Responsibilities:

Network Design: Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-level network solutions using Cisco routing and switching technologies.

Routing and Switching: Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches, including but not limited to Catalyst and Nexus series switches.

Network Security: Implement and manage network security protocols and technologies, including ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS systems.

Network Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor network performance and implement optimization strategies to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of the network infrastructure.

Documentation: Create and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Systems Administrators, Network Architects, and Security Engineers, to design and implement integrated network solutions.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network issues in a timely manner, utilizing troubleshooting tools and methodologies.

Vendor Management: Interact with vendors and service providers to procure network equipment and services, as well as to troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues.

Capacity Planning: Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure scalability and performance of the network infrastructure meet current and future business requirements.

Requirements:

Education: Relevant certifications such as CCNP, or CCIE are highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

· In-depth knowledge of Cisco routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, EIGRP, BGP) and switching technologies.

· Hands-on experience with multicast on both IOS-XE and NX-OS platforms

· Hands-on experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS platforms.

· Strong understanding of network security principles and technologies.

· Proficiency in network troubleshooting and diagnostic tools.

· Familiarity with network virtualization technologies such as VLANs, VRFs, and VXLAN.

· Experience with network management and monitoring tools (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, Wireshark).

· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

· Team Player: Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex network issues and develop innovative solutions.

· Adaptability: Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and business requirements in a dynamic environment.

List of Current Customer Specific Initiatives:

· Document current Network. Physical and logical diagrams initially focusing on Core and Distribution layers adding Access/Edge and WAN.

· Finish Cisco Nexus 5596 to Nexus 9300 migration

· Migrate Cisco 3750 stack configuration to Cisco C9300 stack

· Assist with multicast configuration on Cisco IOS-XE and NXOS for Cisco voice paiging and mass notification system

· Create future state network architecture focusing on simplifying layer 3 for datacenter and network core.

· Create Plan, method of procedure(s), and configuration to implement “simplified layer 3” network configuration and architecture.
