Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Field Technician to support the commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role involves extensive travel, with a work cycle of 6 weeks on-site followed by 1 week of paid rest at home. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in electrical systems and the ability to apply their skills to any piece of equipment that could be encountered on a BESS.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Commissioning, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting: Achieve and/or verify reliable operation of BESS components. Autonomously drive commissioning plans to completion with a focus on overall customer and project success. Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals. Equipment one would expect to encounter includes but is not limited to:
  • Battery systems (Racks, Modules, BMS)
  • HVAC systems for thermal management
  • Fire Safety Systems (FSS)
  • Low-voltage (LV) distribution systems
  • Power supplies and UPS
  • Relays, switches, sensors
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and communication systems
  • Power conversion systems (PCS, inverters)
  • XFMR, up to 34.5 kVa


  • Customer Support: Act as a point of contact for customers, providing clear communication, and technical explanations, and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety standards and procedures, including OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E guidelines for working on energized electrical systems. Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols. Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification. Complete periodic training modules on time.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, and inspection reports. Complete Daily Reports as necessary.
  • Administrative: Adhere to company hour-tracking policies. Maintain accurate and timely expense reports.
  • Independence: This job requires a high level of independence. The expectation is that you can book your own travel and coordinate site access and basic work on your own. Strong communication skills are required – no one will know you need help unless you ask for it.


Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or related fields.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with battery storage systems, power distribution, or industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to work on a 6-week travel cycle followed by 1 week of paid rest.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience working on systems such as BMS, HVAC, LV distribution, and PLCs.


Preferred:

  • Experience with remote monitoring and/or SCADA systems.
  • Networking experience. Understanding of TCP/IP protocols.
  • BESS-specific and/or inverter troubleshooting experience. Please give specific examples of systems you have worked on.
