What you’ll be doing:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for supporting the full product development lifecycle with the creation of state-of-the-art mechanical structures & mechanisms. This role would include supporting program planning, design definition, 3D CAD, 2D CAD, FEA analysis, mechanical testing, & rapid prototyping. The desired deliverables are as follows:

  • Drive the direction of mechanical assembly & component program planning for multiple product initiatives.
  • Assign mechanical program tasks within the mechanical team for executing assigned product roadmap.
  • Lead individual technical mechanical projects within a larger product development program.
  • Populate various mechanical development work products to define the mechanical architecture such as requirements, production specifications, service specifications, validation & verification specifications, test procedures, etc.…
  • Lead the execution of mechanical analysis as needed such as DFMEA, FEA, Stack-up, & DFM.
  • Produce 3D CAD structural designs during the concept & product design phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Implement cable management & component mounting strategies based on internal guidelines.
  • Support the production of 2D product assembly drawings.
  • Support the production of 2D component drawings with appropriate GD&T.
  • Support 3D CAD harness design.
  • Research & present various manufacturing methods in effort to reduce product costs while maintaining structural integrity.
  • Establish & tests joint torque specification to achieve appropriate clamping load as needed.
  • Design & build test fixtures for executing product validation efforts.
  • Create production intent rapid prototypes as needed.
  • Serve as CAD platform expert including product data management (PDM) administration.
  • Drive the execution of approved engineering changes.


What you’ll bring:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent technical field experience.
  • 15 years or more of producing mechanical components in a product development environment.
  • 3 or more years providing technical leadership through product development cycles.
  • Expertise in working with CAD platforms such as Solidworks.
  • Proficiency with various fabrication tools for creation of prototypes. (Ex. Table saws, 3D printers, belt sanders, heat bending, vacuum forming, lathe, mills, etc.…)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mastery knowledge of GD&T based on manufacturing methods.
  • Understanding of ASME Y14/ANSI Y14 standards.
  • Exposure to various manufacturing methods based on materials such as metals, composites, & plastics.
  • Exposure with FEA analysis tools such as Solidworks, Ansys, Altair, etc...
  • Proficiency in designing class A surface components.
  • Proficiency in designing solutions for various seam & edge treatment applications.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with MATLAB & other tools for performing calculations.
  • Experience designing components utilizing various forming methods such a RIM, ROTO, thermoforming, vacuum forming, compression, resin transfer, etc…
  • Experience designing components utilizing various metal fabrication methods such weldments, CNC routing/milling, laser cutting, stamping, hot/cold rolling, bending, extruding, etc.…
  • Experience designing components utilizing snap fit joints.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies such as NSF for food grade sanitization.

Work environment:

  • Physical Demands: Frequently requires handling with repetitive motions of materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Travel: Less than 10% of the time.
  • Location: This position is a considered a hybrid of in office & fabrication environments.
