Required:

  • Experience with Control Systems and Systems Integration
  • Understanding of common industrial communications such as Modbus, DNP, CANBUS and wired ethernet communications
  • Core competencies must include understanding of electrical, mechanical, and communications diagrams
  • Strong knowledge of AC and DC power distribution principles
  • Familiar with engineering software tools such as Python, LabView, etc.
  • Ability to conduct technical research and present solutions product team


Desired:

  • Understanding of cellular and Wi-Fi communications protocols and hardware
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar
  • Strong technical writing skills including product documentation, test plans, technical specifications
  • Hands on experience supporting test and product design
  • Skilled in IoT component specification and selection
  • Experience creating test automation with test measurement equipment
  • Familiarity with EV Charging, Battery Storage (BESS), Micro-grids, Solar
  • Experience installing, integrating, and debugging distributed energy assets and control equipment
  • Knowledge of industry standard electric vehicle communication standards and protocols (i.e. OCPP & IEC15118)
  • Able to occasionally travel and work “off-hours”

Summary:

You will be responsible for the System Design and Integration Testing of devices and assemblies for our hardware product portfolio. This position is a highly hands on and dynamic position centered on bringing hardware products to market. These hardware solutions are deployed at customer sites to perform critical controls, communications and monitoring functions that integrate solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging resources at edge locations to into our industry leading cloud adaptive load management and monitoring platform.


The portfolio of hardware products includes those built or assembled by our company, such as the controls and monitoring platform, those resold such as electric vehicle supply equipment chargers, and major distributed energy products that are purchased from strategic vendors such as energy storage systems, metering devices, and third-party control systems. These include electric vehicle (EV) chargers, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) systems, photovoltaic (PV) generation, smart switchgear for behind the meter installations. You will work closely with the hardware product team that is tasked with bringing products from pre-production and R&D teams, product managers and testing team to develop best-in-class products.


You will work with Systems and Integration Engineers, Software Developers, and Product Managers, to select and optimize hardware components, evaluate COTS devices for use in our product, assemble and test finished devices. The ideal candidate should have the aptitude to enable state-of-the-art IoT communications and computing hardware along with a sound background in electrical engineering fundamentals. With your keen eye for detail and proven expertise, you'll drive our organization forward by building rigorous and automated testing procedures utilizing the latest equipment in renewable energy dispatch and electric vehicle charging technology. You'll be the driving force behind ensuring our hardware-software integration efforts deliver to our customers while we push the boundaries of functionality and design.


Responsibilities:

Design: We assemble and procure products for integration and installation at customer sites. This role will work with the Hardware Development team and business stakeholders to design edge solutions to meet market and technical specifications.

  • Collaborate with the product team to understand business, market, and technical specifications
  • Design hardware products that meet the product specifications
  • Develop secure and adaptable wireless communication network solutions for electric vehicle control and monitoring applications
  • Develop secure and adaptable wired communication network solutions for power generation and storage assets using industry standard protocols
  • Work with other engineers to develop and implement wired and wireless communication protocols
  • Analyze and improve the performance of wired and wireless communication systems and devices
  • Write rigorous testing plans and evaluate test data to ensure products meet specifications
  • Design testing apparatus and data acquisition interfaces to facilitate product QA
  • Read and understand applicable compliance requirements including electrical, mechanical and communications standards
  • Contribute to product testing and certification activities and review testing and qualification procedures
  • Interface closely with hardware and software development teams to ensure that cohesive product developments are successful with internal project teams
  • Take input from product development teams on common failure modes or mistakes in implementation from client groups as well as propose potential solutions
  • Maintain up to date, technical documentation for external customers and internal groups
  • Conduct technical benchmarking against competitive products and companies
  • Value engineering to ensure product costs remain within specifications

Technical Product Support:

  • Collaborate with the digital organization and software development teams to ensure seamless product integrations.
  • Conduct training and education of project execution team members on new products or product features
  • Work closely with assembly and QA teams to ensure product quality
  • Visit customer sites for first article product rollout and validation of product installation and performance
  • Provide first line of technical support for internal groups, such as execution and asset management
  • Develop subject matter expertise for all major products
  • Keep up to date with certification and regulatory requirements that are being applied to products in the field
