Summary

The CFO reports to the CEO and isa key member of the Executive Team and is responsible for providing strategicand financial leadership for AVALA Hospital and its entities. The CFO willdesign and execute strategic financial plans, will build pro-formas / analyticsrelating to new acquisitions and will focus on return on investment. The CFOwill ensure that the strategic and financial plans are integrated andconsistent. The CFO will establish, analyze and execute financial policies andgoals in support of AVALA"'s larger strategic vision and will work closely withthe Controller, Accounting, Financial Analysis and Patient Financial Servicesdepartments. Will be responsible for accuracy of ownerdistributions. The CFO will monitor liquidity and cash flow projections. Willhave frequent interaction with Board Members, owners, hospital and systemsenior leadership, department directors, local business leaders and governmentagencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Proactively advises and educates management on all financialaspects which directly or indirectly impact AVALA and its entities.
  • Collaborates with AVALA"'s board and leadership to prepareand update long range forecasting for the hospital and its entities.
  • Develops and administers the following activities for AVALAand its entities:
  • Financial reports, both internal and external;
  • Financial policies, procedures and systems;
  • Reimbursement strategies, reports and appeals;
  • Budgeting systems for both operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitors CMS guidelines and implements changes.
  • Oversees annual tax returns and tax planning.
  • Financial analysis of new programs, acquisitions andbusiness development.
  • Patient financial services, including receivables managementand patient admissions processes.
  • Provides financial information and consultation tomanagement.
  • Interprets current financial trends and responds withappropriate action.
  • Develops strategies to increase cash flow "" includingimprovements in revenue cycle management.
  • Ensures compliance with covenants incorporated in financingdocuments.
  • Negotiates contracts and agreements with third partiesincluding payor agreements.
  • Participates in professional associations and communityservice activities.
  • Works directly with managed care to forecast and modelimpact of changes in value and risk agreements on financial status.
  • Leads and facilitates organizational planning for changingreimbursement methodologies.
  • Leads or facilitates strategies and steps for cost containmentwithin the organization.
  • Plans, assigns and reviews work of staff to ensure that groupobjectives are met.
  • Attracts and retains talent for direct reports.
  • Will be the Senior Leader for Accounting, Financial Analysis,Patient Financial Services (Business Office), Health Information Management andSupply Chain.
  • Directs AVALA"'s banks in executing cash management decisionsand works with the appropriate investment managers in coordinating fundtransfers and monitoring investment performance.
  • Develops and maintains a system of internal accountingcontrols.
  • Provides financial guidance to departments to enhancerevenue cycle and budget savings.
  • Oversees the hospital"'s insurance coverages includingmalpractice.
  • Will work closely with auditors and DNV regulators.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in specialprojects as assigned.

Professional Requirements
  • MBA or applicable postgraduate education orcertification required.
  • Certified Public Accountant designationpreferred but not required.
  • Required 10 years' experience in a hospital orhealthcare setting with a strong background in payor negotiations. Experience in a for-profit hospital orhealthcare setting preferred but not required.
  • Hospital Information Technology and CERNERexperience preferred.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of accounting,finance, reimbursement, budgeting, credit and collections as relates to a for-profithealthcare setting.
  • Meets dress code standards and adheres topolicy.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled,completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Attends staff meetings and quarterly Town Halls.
  • Represents the organization in a positive andprofessional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvementand continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policiesregarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals ofthe hospital.
  • Promotes professional growth of subordinates bysharing knowledge and/or directing them to sources if information appropriateto given situation. Utilizes journals, books, etc. to learn and/or improve newtechniques and equipment.
  • Assists other staff members in performing any dutythat enhances the delivery of patient care.
Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English,both verbally and in writing.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite includingWord, Excel, and Power Point.
