Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the position of Museum Store Sales Associate. A successful store associate engages readily with visitors, imparting knowledge and hospitality while displaying strong selling skills. Superior customer service is expected of every store associate, with a focus on teamwork and possessing an individual zest for task completion. This staff position will also work directly with the Manager for Wholesale and Retail Operations to assist in creating and managing products that reflect the museum's collections, exhibitions, and educational programs. This role may involve collaborating with various departments within the museum, external vendors, and regional artisans.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible term position.

About the Museum:

With a collecting history that extends back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, home to collections that have grown to include more than 115,000 works of art ranging from ancient to contemporary art and spanning the globe. Committed to advancing the University's teaching and research missions, the Museum also serves as a hub for the humanities at Princeton for visitors worldwide. The Museum currently presents exhibitions in its two downtown venues (Art on Hulfish and ) and is touring collections exhibitions nationally and internationally. When the Museum opens its dramatically reconceived building, scheduled for 2025, it will initiate a new exhibitions program with annual exhibitions on-site and on tour.

Responsibilities
  • Use the Retail POS to enable customers to complete sales.
  • Increase sales through customer engagement and proactive interaction with visitors.
  • Tag and display merchandise, replenish stock and assist in informing managers of inventory levels.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Promote the Museum's programs, lectures, special events, as well as museum collections.
  • Assist with developing and designing new products that align with the museum's mission, exhibitions, and programs.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Previous retail sales experience including cash handling and POS operations required.
  • Ability to learn and communicate key product information, especially specifics of handcrafted artisan pieces.
  • Comfortable in a rapid-paced environment.
  • Experience in Windows based computer registers is required as operating POS (point of sale) register system necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lb. cartons of books or merchandise routinely.
  • Skill with store display and merchandising is preferred but not required.
  • Will be trained in all Store-related systems, as well as security and emergency preparedness procedures.

Preferred Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Art History, or a related field.
  • Experience with inventory management software.
  • Creative and innovative mindset with a keen eye for detail and design.
  • Passion for art, culture, and museum work.
  • Experience in product design, product development, merchandising, or a related role, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
