Applicant Pool for Tutors, Professional, Mathematics Department (Findlay)

Job Description:

Tutors will work one-on-one or in small groups with individuals in Mathematics or Statistics. Students in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering with mathematics-related questions may also be assisted. Tutors will help students understand and apply underlying principles and help them develop critical thinking skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student-centered, tutoring strategies. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Advanced communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal) skills. Computer skills with Microsoft Office suite.
  • The candidate will need to multi-task, collaborate with others and work independently. They will need to be able to put students at ease and help build their confidence in mathematics. Successful candidates must have a working knowledge of the TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator and basic proficiency with MyMathLab software.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide direction and tutoring services to students who have skill deficiencies in a wide range of mathematical areas.
Other Characteristics:
  • Energetic, positive, creative, multi-tasking team player who is able to generate new ideas to better serve students. The candidate will also need to be sensitive to the needs of at-risk students.
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred.
