Position Summary

The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of various telecommunications systems. They possess knowledge of both copper and fiber optic network infrastructure systems, including various cable types and fiber connector types. They are familiar with industry standards for cable pulling, dressing, and labeling, and have experience terminating and testing copper and fiber optic cabling. This position requires reliable daily travel to worksites, adherence to company safety policies and procedures, and the ability to engage in physical activities such as climbing, lifting heavy objects, and prolonged standing.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform assistance with installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications systems.
  • Knowledge of installation of copper and fiber optic Network Infrastructure systems.
  • Familiarity with Copper cable types and their function.
  • Familiarity with fiber connector types.
  • Familiarity with Network infrastructure cable pulling, dressing cables, and labeling to industry standards.
  • Familiarity with terminating and testing all forms of copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Familiarity with installing Communications Room hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures.
  • Attend training and safety meetings and always working safely.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Direct related experience (Network Infrastructure cabling, construction trades).
  • Reliable daily travel to worksites.
  • Must be able to work safely following company policy/procedures on safety.
  • Must be capable of physical activity, including maneuvering around the building including Communications Rooms, prolonged standing, repetitive bending, climbing, and lifting of 50lbs+.
  • Follows established processes and checklists.
  • Assists more senior level technicians, specialists, and managers in their activities.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of management.
  • Thorough understanding of company policies and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively in English.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to maintain composure and handle stressful situations.
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize assigned projects.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Interpersonal skills: such as telephony skills, communication skills, active listening, and customer care.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
