- Uncertified Medical Assistants will have the opportunity to work towards national certification within 12 months of starting employment. Banner Health will support them with access to certification study material and cover the certification costs. Upon certification, a pay increase will be awarded due to the new certification status.

Situated in Gilbert, Arizona, Banner Gateway Medical Center features 286 private rooms, 13 operating suites, a 46-bed emergency department, and is co-located with the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our WIS and NICU services support an average of 4,000 deliveries annually. Our specialized services include oncology, obstetrics, bariatric surgery, and emergency care, all tailored to meet the evolving needs of our vibrant and growing community.
Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at the Banner Gateway Campus in Gilbert, Arizona, offers world-class care for oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The center has introduced leading oncology programs to the campus, including being designated a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and providing comprehensive Head & Neck cancer care. Our extensive facilities include advanced diagnostic imaging, infusion bays, and a cryopreservation lab. We have also implemented a unique electronic surveillance program for inpatient care, allowing remote nurses to assist bedside staff with patient care via two-way audio-video communication.
POSITION SUMMARY
This role involves supporting clinicians and nursing staff in delivering medical care and evaluating direct patient care. Your specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills will play a crucial part in ensuring an exceptional patient experience.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Prepare patients for exams and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements. Report any changes in the patient's condition to the clinician promptly.
- Assist providers with exams and minor procedures, such as taking vital signs, documenting observations, and performing medical tasks. Maintain a safe and clean environment ensuring patient safety.
- Manage patient care including authorizations, referrals, prescriptions, and scheduling for medical treatments and tests. Communicate test results to patients and assist clinicians in delivering optimal care.
- Provide clerical support by maintaining medical records and ensuring accurate billing information. Ensure proper disinfection and maintenance of medical equipment and instruments.
- Order and maintain supplies, stock patient care areas, and handle tasks related to medications.
- Develop effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrate a service-oriented approach and teamwork in all interactions.
- Complete all necessary onboarding and orientation activities as required.
- Work under direct supervision of providers, interacting with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to ensure comprehensive patient care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as per state regulations.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification required, along with BLS certification.
- Strong computer skills and exceptional interpersonal communication skills are necessary for this role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with medical procedures, insurance, EMR, and scheduling software is preferred.
- Additional related education and experience will be advantageous.
