UTHealth Houston is looking for a Systems Architect to be a part of the Infrastructure & Operational Support group within DCO.

This team focuses on messaging, Active Directory, load balancing, Linux, DNS, mobile device management, Citrix & other enterprise-level systems in addition to many smaller systems and applications.

Support for these systems includes design, implementation, support, patching, troubleshooting, and working closely with application owners, peers, and customers to help with performance tuning, troubleshooting and upgrades.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Systems Administrator with exceptional leadership abilities to manage our team of Linux admins.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in Linux systems administration and will be able to effectively lead their team to success in all aspects of their work.

They will be responsible for directing the team's efforts in managing and maintaining our systems, overseeing project management, and ensuring excellent customer service.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership in their field and will be able to motivate, mentor and guide their team to achieve their full potential.

The position requires expertise in administering RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux, encompassing server installation, operating system configuration, security implementation, and troubleshooting of specialized systems and applications.

Both physical and virtual systems are part of this role.

A good understanding of storage subsystems as they relate to system optimization and configuration is essential, as well as practical knowledge of networking.

The position requires proficiency in providing backend systems support for client-server applications and a comprehensive understanding of the system design lifecycle (SDLC).

The candidate must possess demonstrated implementation skills for enterprise-level solutions and experience in configuring and managing SSL certificates. A fundamental grasp of networking technologies is also required. Additionally, the candidate should have practical knowledge of system monitoring tools.
The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills both in written and oral form to cater to diverse audiences. They should be skilled in logical thinking to effectively solve problems and implement viable solutions. The candidate should be able to resolve all problems that may arise, and continually strive towards completing the project.

They should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment, ensuring all project goals are met.

Additionally, the candidate should have a broad range of technical competencies to effectively manage all aspects of application management.

They should be able to engage in technical design discussions and collaborate with Application Administrators, Systems Administrators, and customers to solve complex problems.

Data Center Operations (DCO) under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHealth Houston, operates the university's primary data centers at UCT and Guhn Rd.

DCO also administers standards for other data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus.

DCO is comprised of five areas:

Database & Application Support, Infrastructure & Operational Support, Data Center Operations Services, SPH Data Center Management / Virtualization Team, and the Cloud Team.

Position Summary:
Responsible for overall design, implementation and maintenance of complex IT systems including hardware and software.

The design would include interfacing with the internet, firewalls, servers, network, storage, cloud and the security that allows the infrastructure to function.

This may include the management of the day to day operations within the Data Center Operations (DCO) team. This is in support of the academic, clinical, and research missions of UTHealth.

Position Key Accountabilities:
Plans, designs, and architects the infrastructure and platforms related to the DCO team, including project and strategic planning.
Designs systems to meet specific needs of the customer and UTHealth.
Responsible for ensuring that system development follows industry standards.
Assists in evaluating, recommending, and supporting the server, storage, cloud and data center needs that are managed by UTHealth.

Works closely within the DCO team, DCO management and other IT groups in reviewing, implementing and designing systems that align with the strategic goals of Information Technology (IT) and UTHealth.

Troubleshoots complex problems within the DCO and IT environments.
Works with DCO leadership to develop policies for standardizing and implementing IT system solutions.
Leads and presents technical briefings to the DCO team and other IT groups as needed.
Maintains an understanding of new developments in hardware and software technology. Promotes new application and new technologies as appropriate to enhance the mission of UT Health.
Attends technical briefings and conferences as needed.

May manage Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:
Proven experience in systems development and architecture. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. A solid understanding of system design life cycle (SLDC) methodologies. Excellent communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communications and customer service skills.

Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
Four (4) years of related experience in a similar environment.
