Job Title: Special Education Behavior Technician

Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Services

Pay Grade: AP 3

Dept./School: Special Services

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Days Worked: 197

Primary Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Special Services and Special Education Coordinators, the Behavior Technician will support, tutor, and educate students dealing with behavioral and/or mental health challenges. They will contribute to the direct application of skill-building and behavior modification plans. Additionally, they will assist in implementing PBIS and Special Education initiatives.

Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 48 college credits, or an Associates Degree in Special Education or a related field, or
  • Completion of the Registered Behavior Technician coursework to show college-level skills.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Behavior management and social skills teaching
  • Crisis intervention strategies and positive behavior interventions
  • Ability to use appropriate techniques (approved crisis intervention) to prevent harm to oneself or others, which may involve evading, blocking, and/or restraining.
Experience:

At least two years of experience working with students on behavior intervention plans.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Work directly under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Special Services and the Special Education Coordinators, meeting regularly to evaluate student progress, data collection, and ethical matters.
  • Collect data using various objective measures, conduct assessments, and assist with Behavior Assessment procedures.
  • Implement behavior change techniques and document activities.
  • Collaborate with educators to provide classroom management support and behavioral strategies.
  • Provide assistance to students with behavioral and mental health needs across different school settings and grade levels.
  • Deliver professional development related to behavioral and mental health topics.
  • Promote positive behavior interventions and data collection compliance.
  • Maintain logs and assist in adapting classroom tasks to meet students' needs.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment and uphold professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
