Principal Engineer, Industry Products - Automotive

The Amazon Web Services Industry Products (AIP) team collaborates directly with strategic customers to develop new, industry-specific products that have a direct impact on various sectors at AWS scale.

We are a team of creative thinkers that tackle complex challenges and create products through rapid iteration in an environment similar to a start-up.


We are seeking a principal engineer with expertise, ambition, and dedication to addressing challenging problems, particularly within the automotive industry.

Specifically, experience with large distributed systems, near-real-time data ingestion and processing, in-vehicle/embedded software, regulated industries, or generative AI / LLMs are all highly valuable.


As a senior technical leader, you will become part of Amazon's most senior Technical Community, a collective group of Principal, Senior Principal, and Distinguished Engineers within the company.

This group plays a key role in defining technical standards and shaping AWS's overall technical architecture and engineering practices.

These leaders focus on addressing AWS' most challenging problems by developing high-quality, architecturally sound systems that are in sync with our business requirements.

AWS' senior technical contributors are practical visionaries who can translate business needs into viable technological solutions. They possess extensive and diverse expertise, engaging in hands-on work to produce both detailed technical solutions and high-level architectural designs, while also working on simplifying solutions with practical applications.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the overall system architecture, technology, scalability, reliability, and performance of key AIP services in the Automotive sector.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in technology directly to AWS customers and at Industry Events.
  • Foster technical collaboration across AIP services and collaborate with other Principal Engineers within AIP and Amazon.
  • Coach and cultivate engineers, contribute to defining and nurturing the technical culture, and aid in attracting and retaining top engineering talent.
  • Demonstrate Amazon's Principal Engineering Tenets.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience outside of internships.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing and constructing large-scale systems in a distributed, multitiered environment (Service Oriented Architecture).
  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Record of influencing entities beyond their direct scope from an architectural standpoint.
  • Experience in optimizing for short-term execution while planning for long-term technical capabilities.
  • Background in Automotive industry-related technology.

Our compensation is based on labor costs across various US markets, ranging from $160,100 to $311,200 per year, depending on geographic location and qualifications.

Compensation includes equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of payment, alongside a comprehensive benefits package.
