The Ophthalmic Physiological and Translational Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology at Keck School of Medicine is seeking a creative and highly motivated Research Associate with an interest in development and application of clinical and pre-clinical ophthalmic imaging technologies.
The candidate should have a strong publication record and oral communication skills and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with an interdisciplinary research team.
Job Summary:
Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with supervisor. Analyzes research data and provides interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.

Specific responsibilities include:
development and maintenance of prototype optical imaging systems, image acquisition in human subjects and/or animal models, development and application of image, processing software, presenting findings at scientific meetings, writing manuscripts, and contributing to research grant applications.
The Ophthalmic Physiological and Translational Imaging Laboratory is focused on development and application of prototype optical imaging technologies to study pathophysiology and improve diagnostic evaluation of ocular and systemic diseases.
Ongoing projects include imaging of retinal oxygen delivery and metabolism in experimental models of retinal diseases, characterization of microvascular hemodynamics in ocular and systemic diseases, identification of image-based biomarkers of diabetic retinopathy, and assessment of retinal neurovascular coupling and oxygen metabolism in diabetic retinopathy, sickle cell retinopathy and glaucoma.
