applicants for the position of Team Leader in the Alaska Military Youth Academy.

What you will be doing:


Team Leaders are responsible for the 24/7 accountability, direct control, supervision, health, welfare, and safety of the cadets enrolled at the AMYA and are part of a successful leadership team dedicated to changing and improving the lives of youth 16-18 years of age.

AMYA is located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) and is a residential state-run secondary training and educational institution within the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, accredited by Cognia and is one of the evidence-based, nationally recognized National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Programs for "at-risk" youth located throughout the United States.


The On-Call AMYA Team Leader will serve in an on-call pool, when there is an open shift, the On-Call pool will be used to fill the open shift.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assessing training and living situations;
Observing, correcting, and reporting cadet behavior and determining proper disciple when deemed appropriate;
Instructing and conducting physical training, to include road marches, calisthenics, strength and endurance training.

Some k nowledge of adolescent development.

Ability to teach adolescents leadership, teamwork, service to community, health, hygiene, physical training, first aid and CPR, and outdoor skills.

Ability to promote socially acceptable attitudes and behaviors, use tact, recognize that value systems may vary, treat individuals with respect and consideration, reason logically and arrive at sound conclusions.

Ability to develop and encourage teamwork.
Ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, manuals, and other written material.

The successful applicant must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base.

The background check may include fingerprinting.

A high school diploma or GED;

AND
Six months of work experience, paid or volunteer.

AND
Possession of a valid driver license;

AND
Must be 21 years of age or older.

Substitutions:


Completed coursework from an accredited college may substitute for the required work experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience).


Special Requirement:


As a condition of continued employment, individuals employed as an AMYA Team Leader must obtain a State of Alaska Commercial Driver License (CDL) with "P" endorsement within 90 days of initial appointment.

As a condition of continued employment, individuals employed as an AMYA Team Leader must obtain American Red Cross Basic First Aid and CPR Instructor Certification within 180 days of initial appointment.


Special Note:
As part of the examination process, an extensive background investigation will be conducted.

The investigation includes a criminal record check and a review of work history to determine fitness of character and suitability for work around at-risk youth in an educational environment.

Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment; the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.

AMYA Team Leaders are required to obtain and possess a CDL, subsequent to a conditional job offer, candidates are required to submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test and driving history background check as required by 49 CFR 382, unless otherwise exempted.

Additionally, upon obtaining their CDL, AMYA Team Leaders will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing as required by 49 CFR 382.

AMYA Team Leaders work a nonstandard workweek, which may require rotation between day, evening and graveyard shifts, and may include weekends and holidays.

Use of tobacco products in the presence of the cadets enrolled at the AMYA is not permitted; the use of tobacco products is only permitted in designated locations.
