Job Description

General Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position will work with all internal departments to ensure a safe environment for all by focusing on the creation and enforcement of safety protocols and policies. In addition, this position will have ownership of the outsourced preventative maintenance/calibration process.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Safety Protocol Development and Improvement
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols, considering the specific risks associated with laboratory activities.
  • Enforce Safety Policies:
  • Lockout/Tagout/Machine Interlock/Machine Guarding
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations - worldwide.
  • Risk Assessment of new and existing products and processes
  • Conduct regular risk assessments of equipment, facilities, products and processes to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Maintain internal SDS reference Library as well as Kit/component SDSs for produced products.
  • SDS for internal chemicals, etc.
  • Ergo Assessment
  • Help identify the ergonomic risks such as repetitive tasks that can cause strains, improper work area setup, and improper use of tools
  • Safety Training and Education
  • Provide safety training on proper procedures, equipment usage, emergency response, and the use of safety equipment.
  • Material handling, procedures and compliance
  • Procedures and training for receiving and handling hazardous materials
  • Emergency Response Planning
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including chemical spills, fires, and other laboratory incidents. Includes close collaboration with facilities team.
  • Ensure EnviroLogix maintains proper first responder capabilities
  • Lab Safety Inspections
  • Conduct routine internal safety inspections to identify and rectify potential safety hazards, ensuring the laboratory meets and exceeds safety standards.
  • External safety audits
  • Conduct / manage external safety audits to identify and rectify potential safety hazards, ensuring the laboratory meets and exceeds safety standards.
  • Safety Equipment Inspection and Management
  • Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and proper utilization of safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency eyewashes, and showers.
  • Incident Reporting and Record Management
  • Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Hazardous Waste Disposal
  • Manage Universal, Hazardous and Biological waste in the facility and support transportation and records management.
  • 5S Compliance and adherence
    • Ensure safety during 5S events and safety sustainment during 5S audits
  • Informs and advises management on matters and/or concerns regarding health, security, safety and compliance.
  • Other duties as requested.

Requirements:
  • Associate degree or higher preferably in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Health and Safety related position
  • Safety certifications are a plus. Examples include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)
