Shift Lead

Shift Leads report to the Store Managers. Shift Leads are the first tier of leadership in our stores.

As leaders of people, management holds higher expectations, greater accountability, and grants greater authority to those who hold this position.

It is incumbent upon Shift Leads to hold themselves to the highest standard of professionalism at all times, as they lead by example.

Shift Leads take direction from many lines of business in order to assist in an inviting and welcoming store front and positive customer experience, while maintaining compliance and ensuring all policies, processes and procedures are being upheld.

Shift Leads are directly in charge of Sales Associate performance and adherence to policy, process and procedure.

Shift Leads are responsible for upholding discretion and confidentiality, when dealing with all aspects of the staff, store, company, customers, vendors and anyone else directly or indirectly associated with The Company.

Sales Associate Support


Shift Leads work directly with customers performing all duties of a Sales Associate, with the addition of overseeing and providing direction to Sales Associates in floor operations.

Shift Leads are expected to maintain and exemplify a professional appearance and positive demeanor.

Shift Leads monitor, direct and assure the progress, completion and success of tasks and task lists assigned to Sales Associates, while leading by example.

This includes delegating tasks to Sales Associates, (i.e., cleaning bathrooms, cleaning the sales floor, stocking product, keeping back stock organized etc.) and ensuring a productive well maintained sales floor.

They will hold the Sales Associates accountable by issuing occurrences for failure to adhere to company policy, as well as by issuing kudos and SPIFs.

Shift Leads are responsible for addressing, deterring and mitigating customer and Sales Associate concerns and disagreements, ensuring all issues are professionally addressed and resolved or brought to management's attention, immediately.

They are responsible for ensuring communications remain calm and professional.

Should a Sales Associate be temporarily incapable of maintaining a calm, professional and productive demeanor, or should a Shift Lead require input from management before continuing to work with a Sales Associate, Shift Leads may send Sales Associates home for the remainder of their shift, promptly notifying Management.

Customer Service


Shift Leads are responsible for ensuring that all staff on the sales floor uphold the highest standards of customer service.

They will assist with suggestions on how to properly handle situations when Sales Associates are unsure.

Shift Leads will constantly train and observe Sales Associates customer service skills and interactions, ensuring they meet POM Cannabis standards.

Shift Leads will be in constant communication with the Store Manager regarding Sales Associate performance, both positive and negative. Shift Leads may require back office staff to assist on the floor as needed. Shift Leads will note patterns-of-need, and issues that require addressing, to improve operations, and the flow of the floor. They shall regularly bring such issues, and a recommendation for resolution, to Store Managers.

Marketing


Shift Leads must be able to understand and successfully execute processes and procedures put in place by the Marketing Coordinator, including but not limited to: point of sale marketing tools, daily specials, discounting, loyalty program and menu usage to assist Sales Associates.

Direction will come from the Marketing Coordinator.

Inventory


Shift Leads are responsible for taking direction from the Inventory Team regarding stocking needs, product rotation, product locations and organization.

Shift Leads will delegate responsibilities as needed regarding these things to the Sales Associates, and will be responsible for their follow-through and accuracy.

Shift Leads are required to reach out to the Inventory Team regarding product errors or issues as they arise.

Education


Shift Leads play an active role is training new hires on daily duties and product education, while working directly with the Office Manager to ensure proper and accurate information is being presented.

There may be some instances where Shift Leads will need to troubleshoot problems with technology. Technical issues should always be brought to the CTO/HelpDesk prior to troubleshooting.

Cash Handling

Shift Leads are responsible for overseeing Sales Associates till assignments and till use.

This includes, but is not limited to:
customer returns, proper ringing practices, employee purchases, discount overrides and proper use of all discounts.

Shift Leads are responsible for ensuring all required documentation is fully completed in regard to all the above tasks, as well as ensuring two person counts are always being upheld.

Employee Breaks


Shift Leads are responsible for assigning mandatory break periods to Sales Associates and making certain that people sign out and back in on-time.

Shift Leads must understand the laws regarding required breaks and apply them consistently, while ensuring customer flow is not negatively impacted.

Shift Leads may require back office staff to assist on the floor as needed.

Security

Shift Leads are key holders, taking on the responsibility of store and staff security. This includes the responsibility of having their own, private security code. They are responsible for making sure that staff wear their panic buttons and badges at all times. They are responsible for understanding and successfully executing all store opening and closing policies, processes and procedures.

They are responsible for knowing and maintaining the location of all keys needed for daily floor operations, including but not limited to:
change safe keys or codes, display case keys and back stock keys.

Compliance and Policy

Shift Leads are responsible for understanding and upholding Company policies and state and federal regulations.

They must educate and hold all Sales Associates responsible for these policies and regulations, and all other aspects of compliance, including but not limited to:
age restrictions, verbiage, selling limitations, pricing laws, open packaging, appearing intoxicated, medical card holder specifications, etc. Shift Leads are responsible for understanding and upholding all Company policies and assisting staff with questions that arise.

Shift Leads and Managers are the only roles that may complete employee purchases and are accountable for the required paperwork being submitted to management.

Shift Lead Chain of Command

Shift Leads will often be scheduled as Sales Associates. In this case, they are subordinate to the Shift Lead on Duty.

The Shift Lead on Duty, while on break or in the restroom, must transfer leadership to a Subordinate Shift Lead while unavailable.

Under no other circumstances may a Subordinate Shift Lead take action on, or responsibility for, the Shift Lead on Duty's responsibilities.

Upon return of the Shift Lead on Duty, the Subordinate Shift Lead shall pass down all floor activity and leadership actions taken in their absence.

In the absence of a Subordinate Shift Lead, a Shift Lead requiring a temporary absence, must transfer leadership to:
Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Office Manager, Inventory Manager, or Inventory Assistant, in that order.

Hiring Requirements

Must be 21+ to qualify.

Open availability is required.

Qualified applicants must possess the ability to prioritize tasks, while upholding and following The Company's policies, processes and procedures. They must be able to balance additional job endorsements if approved.

Shift Leads must possess satisfactory communication, people, and organizational skills, and be diligent with their follow-through.

They must have an uplifting and positive energy, and exhibit ethical professionalism, at all times, including in their written and verbal communications.

They must be able to absorb and implement information regarding policy, procedures and compliance. Shift Leads must exhibit great listening skills and patience. Shift Leads may be needed on and off scheduled hours to assist staff with issues that arise. They may be needed to cover shifts. Cannabis education is a plus.

Professional appearance and presentation are required.

Must be able to sit and/or stand 8+ hours and lift 30+ lbs. Ladder use may be needed. Periodic travel may be required.

This is a stipend position, hours dependent on Company need.

Shift Lead schedule will be set by the Store Manager, requirements of the job, and by the Scheduler, including additional shifts requiring coverage as directed by the Store Manager and Scheduler.

Charisma Management and POM Cannabis reserve the right to modify any and all of the above responsibilities and requirements at any time.
