Overview

This position offers the opportunity to work remotely at all times. It represents the second stage in a career progression with four levels. Reporting directly to the Coding Director, the main responsibility of this role is to accurately assign ICD-9-CM (ICD-10-CM) and CPT-4 codes for diagnoses and procedures in various outpatient medical settings, including Outpatient Hospital Clinics, ASU, OBSV, interventional radiology/cardiac cath/angiography records, and more. In addition to coding, the role involves abstracting to ensure the accuracy and completeness of outpatient records, utilizing systems such as 3M Coding Reimbursement, Optum, and Epic EMR. The Coder II also assesses medical necessity and addresses Correct Coding Initiative edits to ensure accuracy in data reporting for licensure, statistical, and reimbursement purposes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Preferred an associate's degree in a science-related field from an accredited program through AHIMA or AAPC.
  • License/Certifications: Must have RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-H, or CIRCC credential.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of diverse coding experience, particularly in surgical coding, with knowledge of CPT/ICD-9-CM/HCPCS/modifier coding for physician professional charges. Additionally, at least two years of experience as a Clinical Coder I in an acute care facility is required, with expertise in coding for various outpatient and professional procedures.
  • Proficiencies: Demonstrated expertise in ICD-9-CM (ICD-10-CM/PCS), CPT-4, and HCPCS coding guidelines. Ability to showcase competence and knowledge through standardized tests with high accuracy rates while meeting productivity standards.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Strong capability to apply general guidelines to specific coding scenarios independently, demonstrating discretion and high analytical skills.
