Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs) Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

Fearless is looking for a Test Engineer III to add to our diverse team of 250+ employees (and counting).

What you'll be doing

The Test Engineer III is responsible for supporting all aspects of software testing for their team. They leverage their engineering skills and testing mindset to build the necessary systems for the team to deliver a quality product. This role should work independently within the testing context but be highly collaborative with the engineering team.

Responsibilities and Contributions: Organizational and Leadership Role

  • Develop and execute manual and automated software test plans to identify software problems and their causes.
  • Defines project-level test strategies that align with the organization and quality objectives.
  • Facilitates conversations with other test engineers, team members, and Product Owners to outline quality mission and objectives.
  • Advocates for the test strategy with the Engineers and teaches Engineers to perform good tests and build effective automation.
  • Coaches and supports the team in authoring automated tests for a variety of scenarios, like data validation, feature testing, and performance testing.
  • Reviews, writes, and updates automated tests as appropriate for effective coaching of team members.
  • Collaborates with Engineers and Designers to build test plans that focus on feature delivery and usability.
  • Collaborates with Software Developers and senior team members to understand the technical implementation of features and to advocate for and monitor the implementation of testing strategies.
  • Plans various types of testing, including systems and integration testing, regression testing, performance and load testing, compliance testing, and release testing.
  • Performs manual exploratory testing, both on their own and with the team, as appropriate for the project test strategy.

Functional Role

  • Assists with software debugging issues and performs root cause analysis to identify problems in design and/or implementation.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, and build relationships and influence others.
  • Writes test plans, test cases, test documentation, and bug reports.
  • Displays personal leadership and works collaboratively with others to create a positive team environment.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies Must-Have Skills

  • Proficient with JUnit and Cypress.
  • Demonstrated experience with both manual and automated testing.
  • Proficient with context-driven test methodologies to formulate appropriate strategies based on specific details of each project.
  • Proficient with writing and refining test plans and strategies.
  • Proficient developing project-level test strategies and building test plans that define why, how, and when testing principles are applied, including the use of exploratory testing and automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand how a system works and identify key risks to quality.
  • Proficient with deriving test steps with minimal information.
  • Basic understanding of one software language, such as , Java, or Python.
  • Experience driving quality through process.
  • Experience communicating cross-functionally, with clients, and across management levels in formal and informal settings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, or similar technology-related degree.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • Experience as a government contractor or previous work with a government agency.
  • Demonstrated experience with Zephyr test management tool.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team or other test engineers.
