About the Position:

As a Surveyor at Suffolk County, you will play a crucial role in inspecting parcels and resolving boundary line disputes. You will work closely with acquisition and appraisal staff to provide essential information for decision-making. Additionally, you will assist in training Real Estate personnel in GPS applications and ensuring the accuracy of field data.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Inspect parcels and resolve boundary line disputes
  • Provide information to acquisition and appraisal staff
  • Train Real Estate personnel in GPS applications
  • Establish GPS coordinates for County properties
  • Review consultant surveys for accuracy
  • Assist in supervising surveyors working under contract
  • Act as a liaison between the department and the public
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and 4 years of survey experience (2 years in a supervisory role)
  • High school diploma and 8 years of surveying experience (4 years in a supervisory role)
  • License to practice land surveying in New York and 8 years of surveying experience (4 years in a supervisory role)
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of manual and electronic surveying
  • Good understanding of mathematics and trigonometry
  • Familiarity with deed descriptions and property filing records
  • Experience with surveying equipment and software
  • Ability to supervise personnel effectively
Important Notes:
This role does not offer relocation assistance or sponsorship. The target salary is $65,093 increasing to $66,712 on July 1, 2024. This position is a Provisional Appointment.
