Burford has created a commercial credit analyst position that will perform credit analysis and operational due diligence of law firms and businesses that are potential litigation finance counterparties and monitor credit and operational conditions of existing litigation finance counterparties.
The commercial credit analyst will work closely with the underwriting team to monitor financial conditions in ongoing financial arrangements with law firms while assessing credit risk in new transactions with both law firms and companies.
The credit analyst will be proficient with financial statements, have financial/credit analysis experience, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently.
Burford Capital is pioneering litigation finance as a new asset class.This is an excellent opportunity to apply financial due diligence and research skills to a new asset class working on bespoke investments with a highly experienced investment team.
The role will report to a Vice President based in Burford's New York office.Though we are on a hybird work schedule, for an early career hire, we require the credit analyst to work from one of Burford's hub offices in Chicago, New York, or London to be able to receive training and development in person from the team.
This position could also be performed by a mid- or late-career person looking for a defined role in which case remote work from other locations could be considered.
The base compensation range for this role is dependent on experience and location. Burford also pays an annual discretionary bonus as well as a welcome Restricted Stock Unit grant.COMPANY OVERVIEW

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Credit Analysis and Monitoring
- Assist in credit analysis of law firms and companies
- Assist in creating cash flow analysis models for new non-recourse investments in legal assets
- Monitor credit position and compliance with covenants for investments in Burford's portfolio on a periodic basis
- Monitor cash receipts and reconcile them with the financial records of the counterparty
SKILLS DESIRED
Qualifications & Experience
- An undergraduate degree with accounting, finance, economics, or business major preferred
- Minimum two years of relevant work experience (e.g., Commercial Credit Analyst)
- Proficiency in credit analysis and financial modeling is highly desired; advanced accounting knowledge is required
- High proficiency in Excel; familiarity with FactSet or other financial databases is a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong written communication skills, capable of succinctly summarizing financial and risk analysis findings
- Ability to produce accurate and detailed analysis within tight deadlines
- Ability to work and think independently while staying in close communication with the broader team
- Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively
- Enterprising, highly intelligent, creative, proactive, and willing and eager to learn
