Renewal Underwriter

This individual will work in tandem with Producers, and Team Leader to provide quality service to our clients.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Adheres to the Bridge Specialty Group service standards.
- Understands carrier guidelines including systems processes related to underwriter duties.
- Underwrites and prices accounts per specific carrier guidelines.
- Issues quotes and binders documenting insurance coverages.
- Develops and promotes broker/agent relationships to help reach production goals.
- Recognizes and evaluates inherent hazards and exposure associated with the individual risks.
- Underwrites and binds renewal business.
- Oversees and manages the work of Underwriters and Associate Underwriters.
- Reviews and evaluates mid-term changes in exposure.
- Pre-reviews existing accounts for potential non-renewal due to claims activity or increase in unacceptable exposure.
- Reviews for cancellation (i.e., non-payment of premium, insured's request to cancel, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree and five to ten years related experience in the insurance industry and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred.
- Understand policy construction for ISO and manuscript general liability coverage forms. Negotiate to improve coverage.
- Experience with general liability, excess, auto, and workers' compensation rating.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Independently market and rate coverage with carrier partners.
- Analyze exposures and profitably underwrite within established guidelines.
- Effectively negotiate with trading partners to broaden appetite and increase revenue.
- Accept or decline risks based on analysis of variables.
- Review applications, confirm complete data or request missing information, and determine appropriate underwriting action.
- Evaluate risks to appropriately market based upon risk characteristics.
- Review book of business for profitability and growth.
- Develop productive internal and external relationships.
- Take initiative to develop and expand program offerings.
- Detail oriented and analytical approach to underwriting.
- Proficient with agency management systems.
- Property & casualty license in Illinois.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, policy and accounting systems, and vendor specific computer programs.
