Summary

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Accounting Technician. The Accounting Technician will function in Fiscal Service. The incumbent's primary responsibility is establishing and maintaining a complex integrated financial system and services which contributes to effectively manage and control facility operations.

Duties

The Accounting Technician duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Utilizes a range of software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) including but not limited to, spreadsheets, word processing, internet, and communications.
  • Researches and resolves issues in a paperless system including, but not limited to vendor issues, missing payments and rejects.
  • Consults with customers providing advice and guidance concerning policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Coordinates processing local and temporary duty (TDY) transactions, Coordinates, reviews, audits and reconciles government travel, convenience check and purchase card transactions.
  • Meets the needs of customers while supporting all stakeholders by communicating in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with all stakeholders constructively and appropriately.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements within 15 calendar days of the closing date listed on the announcement:
  • Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6.The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: GS 6- You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: basic understanding of accounting systems, budgeting, quantitative research and analysis, and accurate and timely reporting for control of funds or business practices. Use of a wide variety of procedures or processes required to assemble, review and maintain complex accounting, budgeting or other fiscal transactions.
