The Pathologist Assistant

As a Pathologist Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health, you are responsible for supporting pathologists in autopsies and examining surgical specimens, including compiling clinical data before analysis.

Responsibilities:

- Help pathologists in selecting, preparing, and dissecting surgical tissue sections for various examinations.
- Assist in photographing and describing surgical specimens.
- Ensure accuracy in patient information and gross descriptions of surgical specimens.
- Aid in preparing tissue sections for consultations and studies.
- Procure tissue samples for various studies and banking purposes.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness required for dissections.
- Assist in preparing teaching materials for educational purposes.
- Perform computer functions for timely result reporting.
- Support staff and residents in post-mortem examinations as needed.
- Additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH competencies and behavioral standards.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Master's Degree from a NAACLS accredited institution as a Pathologists' assistant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- 5+ years of grossing experience (including grossing large cases) OR Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of experience as a PA.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:
- Master's Degree.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification eligible.
- ASCP certification preferred.
