Job Summary:

In this role at the Arizona State Hospital, as a Behavioral Health Technician 1 working under a Registered Nurse, you'll be providing physical and psychological care to psychiatric patients. The position entails a rotating schedule to meet hospital staffing needs. Responsibilities include assisting patients with ADL's, monitoring nutrition intake, taking vital signs, documenting patient activities, and alerting nurses to any changes in patient status. Additionally, you'll escort patients to referrals, respond to emergencies, and ensure safety and security for patients and staff.

Job Duties:

  • Supervising patient activities and social skills
  • Communicating with patients in various situations
  • Participating in care team and implementing treatment plans
  • Assisting with organizing therapeutic activities, exercise, and rehabilitation
  • Charting on patients on special observation
  • Completing progress notes and reports
  • Reporting all unusual incidents
  • Attending shift reports and mandatory education
  • Coordinating with supervisor for required clinical oversight
  • Observing and documenting patient problems
  • Responding to medical and psychiatric codes
  • Using approved interventions pro-actively
  • Promoting quality service within a compassionate environment
  • Maintaining an environment that supports patient rights

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of mental health principles, therapeutic interventions, and patient rights
  • Skills in teaching daily living activities and providing therapeutic interactions
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, follow instructions, and document progress
  • Supporting a diverse workforce and promoting equal opportunity

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling may substitute for experience. Alternatively, two years of direct patient care experience preferably in behavioral health settings.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Obtain Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must maintain CPR and NVCI certification
  • Driving may be required
