Correctional Technician at Fairfax County Sheriff's Office



The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office is looking for qualified candidates for a full-time night shift Correctional Technician role at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. This position involves performing various support tasks within the Center, such as coordinating inmate property, assisting with inmate clothing and mail, restocking supplies, and addressing inquiries from citizens regarding inmate property.



Illustrative Duties:

  • Assigned to workstations in different sections like Property Section, Laundry, Mail Room, Commissary, and Financial Section;
  • Participates in a cross-training program to handle tasks in each area;
  • Follows procedures to protect property and facilities;
  • Helps during the booking process by managing inmate property and belongings;
  • Assists in various inmate-related processes and actions;
  • Oversees laundry tasks and addresses inmate complaints regarding laundry issues;
  • Manages inmate funds, property, and supplies efficiently;
  • And more.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using office equipment and computers;
  • Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and perform basic arithmetic;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues;
  • Ability to oversee inmate activities;
  • Working in challenging environments.


Employment Standards:

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent plus two years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in corrections or law enforcement is a plus.

Certificates and Licenses Required:
None.

Necessary Special Requirements:
Completion of a background check, credit check, and polygraph exam.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Selection Procedure:
Panel interview may be conducted.
