The primary purpose of the Research Data Coordinator position is to provide administrative and technical services for the coordination of a research project on hepatobiliary tract cancers.


JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Data Management

  • Recruit patients and collect epidemiological data and biological sample for an epidemiological research project in department of Epidemiology
  • Coordinates the control of paper flow for protocols and patient survey data for entry into the epidemiology database and register recruited patient into OnCore.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records on both recruited and non-recruited patients.
  • Follow up recruited patients for return of questionnaire. Check the quality of the questionnaire data.
  • Identify and recruit control subjects from MDACC clinics for the same study.
  • Performs other duties related to data management as needed.
Research Study Coordination

  • Identify eligible patients, administer research survey, and accrue patients to an epidemiology study of biliary cancer. Explains the research project to patients and conduct interviews using questionnaires.
  • Responsible for consenting all new biliary cancer cases for accessing their archived tissue specimen and send it for genomic profiling
  • Responsible for consenting candidate patients with hepatobiliary cancer patients, collect their blood, saliva, and stool samples to be sent to the core lab for processing.
  • Responsible for collecting the biliary cancer fresh surgically resected tissue samples.
Research Administrative activities

  • Work harmoniously with GI staff, physicians, patients and their families, and members of other departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining a log of the collection of all biological samples.
  • Review the medical records using EPIC system to retrieve the clinical characteristics of recruited patients with hepatobiliary cancers at time of diagnosis.

EDUCATION:

Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:
Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:
Two years of related experience. With preferred degree, no experience required.

Preferred:
Medical Terminology experience. Experience with EPIC of patients' records. Patient interviewing, managing research data and/or specific experience in hepatobiliary tract cancers.
