Pay

This position is a non exempt position at pay grade 105.

Attendance

Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am - 5:30 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Public Works Technician II for Vegetation is responsible for maintaining and mowing the City's rights-of-ways and drainage ditches.

This position operates various types of machinery fand hand tools that are required to help maintain the City's right-of-ways and drainage ditches.


Responsibilities

  • Obey all Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
  • Direct traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
  • Knowledgeable in setting up message boards, water barriers, Type I, II, III barricades during normal and emergency operations
  • Mowing City drainage right-of-ways, pick up trash prior to mowing
  • Provide assistance to mowing crews understanding OSHA regulations and safety issues, basic knowledge of hazards on construction trades, ability to use M.S.D.S sheets
  • Basic understanding of hand and power tools and equipment to maintain the R.O.W and drainage system
  • Operate motorized equipment
  • Respond to after hours and weekend emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and/ or after any city emergency event.

Example:
Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency. All employees work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses

  • Able to lead a team, if needed; able to lead Public Works technician I & Public Works technician II
  • Keep materials stock in vehicle assignment, must communicate when supply/ material are low
  • Able to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/ or elevated conditions, able to evaluate safe work conditions
  • Able to communicate with internal and external customers, while maintaining professionalism
  • Proper communication with the Foreman, work coordinator, planner/ scheduler, and assistant director
  • Complete daily reports and work orders legibly
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma/ GED
  • Minimum of (2) two years of experience
  • Class B Commercial License preferred
  • Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging within (6) six months of hire
  • Certification in Confined Space within (6) six months of hire
  • Certification in Trenching and Shoring within (6) six months of hire
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
