CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) promotes increased access, opportunity and accomplishment among people with disabilities across ages and life domains through its multifaceted research, training and service portfolios. CDS is one of 68 University Centers on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs) nationwide and is the largest research and public service center devoted exclusively to disability issues in the College of Education and Human Development. The Center's current programmatic units focus on transition to adult life (secondary education, post-secondary education, and employment), health and wellness, PreK-12 education, and assistive technology. Each unit implements a cohesive program of research, technical assistance, academic training, professional development, community training, advocacy, and information dissemination. CDS works in close collaboration with federal agencies and organizations, state agencies, other units at the University of Delaware, community organizations, service providers, individuals with disabilities, and families. Each unit provides opportunities to both graduate and undergraduate students to develop their knowledge, skills and disposition and contribute to the Center's mission. The center also manages the Disability Studies Minor, the Access: Ability Scholars program, and two large-scale leadership training programs. The Program Coordinator for the Career & Life Studies Certificate (CLSC) program is a part of the Transition, Education & Employment Model (TEEM) Unit within the Center. Under the general direction of the Program Director of the Career & Life Studies Certificate (CLSC), the Program Coordinator oversees academic and campus engagement initiatives and facilitates connections and support for CLSC students.

The Career & Life Studies Certificate (CLSC) is housed at the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities (CDS). The initiative provides a comprehensive set of supports for UD students with intellectual disabilities within an inclusive college experience, as well as services to high school students with a range of disabilities through specific programs overseen by the CDS. The Program Coordinator leads on-campus activities for CLSC students, including student life and academics. The Program Coordinator serves as the primary liaison for all student life and student support offices, including residence life, and academic departments. The Program Coordinator oversees CLSC course modules and develops and delivers workshops and course modules and provides individualized coaching based on students' identified goals in accordance with their person-centered plan.

This is an independent position that requires interaction and collaboration with program staff, students with disabilities and their family members, university staff and members of the community who support student participants.

MAJOR RESPSONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees processes for facilitating campus engagement, residence life, and student support with UD departments and offices, and serves as the liaison to partner offices.
  • Oversees the delivery of CLSC course modules and workshops to students enrolled in the CLSC program; creates and delivers content for at least some of these courses.
  • Has primary responsibility for the design and implementation of Summer Bridge programming, a comprehensive preparation and orientation experience for incoming CLSC participants that extends throughout the summer prior to their arrival on campus.
  • Provides technical support to university offices to promote disability inclusion practices in existing services at the University.
  • Provides individualized coaching support ("Point Coaching") to students enrolled in the program and co-facilitates the creation and modification of person-centered plans.
  • Supports pre-college programs through teaching, coaching and other supports needed for high school students with disabilities.
  • Participates in the recruitment, training and supervision of miscellaneous wage, UD undergraduate hourly staff, interns, and volunteers during the academic year who serve as internship coaches, point coaches, and teaching assistants.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Establishes and maintains a system for tracking student and program process.
  • Serves as the liaison to the CLSC Alumni Association.
  • Designs, performs, and oversees data collection related to student assessment and performance.
  • Supports general processes within associated programs, such as admissions, program marketing, student advisement and other general support.
  • Maintains policies and procedures manuals for respective elements of assigned projects.
  • Supports the development of program summaries to funding sources
  • Assists in the development of grant proposals supporting post-secondary education initiatives.
  • Engages in support role with families as necessary.
  • Participates in center-wide activities with CDS, including submission of project-specific data to the NIRS database.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, counseling, social work, education, human development, psychology or other related human services discipline with three years of experience providing direct support in a disability related field and/or postsecondary education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and maintain confidential files and records.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
