Job Summary:
Responsible for providing nutrition education through cooking demonstrations, providing hands-on training in basic cooking skills. Focusing on information on nutritional health, proper food preparation techniques, and food safety.

Job Duties:
Provides basic nutrition education to clients. Travels to food stores, health fairs, and community meetings to provide nutrition education. Assists the Nutrition Aide Lead with educating clients on proper cooking procedures and food safety. Organizes and conducts cooking demonstrations, cooking classes, and proper methods for food storage. Assists in developing educational materials for programs and helps distribute materials to clients. Participates in outreach. Assists in developing educational materials for programs and distributes materials to clients. Assists in developing monthly recipe calendars for food centers. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least six (6) months of experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

This position is required to travel to outlying food distribution stores. Must obtain a food handler's permit within six months of employment.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS


The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

Knowledge of USDA food guidelines and requirements. Knowledge of Cherokee culture and tradition. Ability to interpret and use food product nutritional labels.

Must meet and maintain periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, taste or smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. No special vision requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
