Founded in 1931 amid the Great Depression, JVS SoCal (Jobs. Vision. Success.) began with a single desk in a Bunker Hill office in downtown Los Angeles, serving job seekers who were struggling to survive amid overt workplace discrimination. Nearly 100 years later, the agency is a recognized regional leader in workforce development, offering a broad range of vital, innovative social services to 30,000+ individuals each year.
Responsibilities
Working in the Marketing & Communications department, this role will be an introduction to working in a corporate environment with standard office equipment, procedures, and expectations. Intern(s) will learn about the nuts & bolts of journalistic storytelling, interviewing clients and program managers to produce success stories. In addition, we are also seeking those proficient with and interested in social media content creation, helping produce videos that explain and promote our services.
Working Conditions
This internship is up to two days/wk (Tuesdays & Wednesdays) in an office environment. Additionally, expectation of attendance of relevant JVS SoCal, industry and/or partner events. Will be based at the corporate office on Wilshire Blvd (at San Vicente), and most of the work will be conducted on a student-provided computer.
Requirements
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Good interpersonal relations.
- Solid knowledge of Mac OS, Microsoft Office + Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite, non-linear video editing, and digital publishing are all highly preferred.
- Driver's license and access to reliable transportation is desirable, but not required.
Course credit + $16.90/hr for 16 hours per week
