Job Summary:

As a Transportation Industry Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in assessing risks specific to the transportation sector for the markets represented by GTU. Collaborating with producers and insurance company underwriters, you will evaluate applicant's risk profiles, determine suitable coverages, and set pricing to ensure overall profitability and sustainability of the book. Your responsibilities will encompass providing guidance to Policy Service personnel while adhering to state and insurance company regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate applications, financial statements, and related materials to determine risk acceptability.
  • Collaborate with producers and underwriters to assess applicant's risk and coverage options.
  • Analyze account characteristics to determine pricing and coverage within established protocols.
  • Utilize agency management systems to quote policies accurately.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to producer inquiries.
  • Maintain compliant files and data in agency systems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with producers and insurance companies.
  • Provide professional customer service to producers.
  • Assist in audits and respond to underwriting issues.
  • Support management with operational updates and projects.
  • Mentor junior underwriting staff.
  • Adhere to GTU mission, vision, and ethical standards.
  • Provide backup support when required.
Additional Responsibilities:

Participate in special projects as assigned.

Engage with prospects, producers, and insurers for training and business development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong analytical skills and team collaboration abilities.
  • Attention to detail and effective organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Training and Experience:
  • Business administration or accounting degree preferred.
  • Experience in underwriting for property and casualty, particularly in the transportation sector.
  • Commercial lines experience advantageous.
  • Property and Casualty Insurance license required.
  • CPCU status and other designations beneficial.
  • Customer Service or Underwriting experience in commercial P&C agencies.
  • Experience with Agency Management systems preferred.
  • Adaptability and willingness to embrace change.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience considered.
