Job Description

The Assistant Nurse Manager of the Dialysis Program is responsible for administration and evaluation of program implementation, personnel management, and overall operations of the dialysis program together with Nurse Manager. Working collaboratively with Nephrologists in the coordination of care for patients receiving dialysis. This will include daily oversight of the clinical staff and patient scheduling, support the patient experience, ongoing quality improvement, serve as a role model for inter-professional communication, and monitors departmental/ program infection prevention guidelines.

In addition, responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow through scheduling, identifying supply chain needs, and support the quality improvement initiatives of the department and program. The assistant nurse manager of the dialysis program assures that all policies and procedures include best practice guidelines and will work with the department/ program leadership and nursing educators, to ensure that all staff are properly trained in the use and understanding of department equipment. Support dialysis department future growth and expansion, including implementation of peritoneal dialysis cycler initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains established departmental and program policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance/performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Organize daily schedules in accordance with productivity expectations to ensure patient care requirements are met.
  • Able to perform all duties listed in the Registered Nurse job description
  • Establishes and maintains standards of care. Provides clinical supervision for nursing and technical staff.
  • Assures quality patient care. Utilizes established quality care indicators as basis for identification of opportunities to improve care
  • Develops specific staffing patterns for the Dialysis Program. Coordinates schedule for staff and shift times for patients.
  • Coordinates the implementation of orientation and in-service programs.
  • Participates in the interview process and recruitment process.
  • Participates in staff performance evaluations and effectively recommends action to be taken regarding areas of probation and discharge.
  • Instructs, mentors and develops the potential of his/her staff members.
  • Provides for effective communication.
  • Displays professional behavior and promotes own professional growth and development. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Promotes positive customer relations.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Drives facility initiatives, including, but not limited to, performance audits, quality improvement projects
  • Participates in Infection Control, QAPI, Risk, Compliance, Mock Surveys and Fiscal committees
    Responsible for direct coordination of staffing, physical facilities, dialysis supplies and equipment for the unit
  • Assume direct patient care as needed, including but not limited to:
  • Dialysis procedures -initiating/ monitoring/ terminating treatment
  • Dialysis vascular access management
  • Lab value management pre/post dialysis treatment
  • Extensive patient/family education
  • On-call coverage for administrative and clinical management as needed
  • Attends meetings, conferences and seminars as required.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years Acute Care Dialysis Experience Required
  • Clinical Coordinator or management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse with the CT Department of Health.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • CPR certification
  • Excellent written, oral and communication skills are essential. Demonstrated organization skills are essential.
  • Skills in the utilization of quality improvement methods related to data management and analysis. Competency with computer software such MS Office or equivalent
