Saint Anselm College, a catholic, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a skilled Network Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Network Systems and Services, the Network Specialist will ensure the effective, efficient, secure, and highly available operation and maintenance of our wired and wireless network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot network devices and equipment, including Extreme/Enterasys switches and routers, Aruba wireless controllers, access points, Clearpass network access control, servers, and cabling.
  • Work with fiber (single-mode and multi-mode), fiber connectors, fiber testing, and Ethernet applications to extend network connections as needed.
  • Perform network closet tasks, including switch and router connections, patching for fiber and copper, validating connectivity, and troubleshooting network issues.
  • Document and backup network hardware, uplinks, layouts, data, and procedures.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot the network using software, network testers, analysis devices, and command-line and GUI utilities. Resolve network issues promptly.
  • Manage network operations using Extreme Cloud IQ and Extreme Cloud IQ Site Engine
  • Be proficient with 802.1x, VLAN segmenting and trunking, creating lags, and configuring new and existing network switches.
  • Conduct wireless planning, balancing, tuning, and verification using Aruba Airwave and other tools (Ekahau).
  • Maintain network services including DNS, DHCP, SSL certificates, and network access control.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues for users, network services, mobile devices, and applications.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and networking standards. Advise on upgrades and new technologies.
  • Collaborate with systems and network administrators to ensure security controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Provide off-hour support as required.
  • Offer Tier 2 support for all IT-supported applications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Networking, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Applicant with significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Industry-standard network certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting multi-segmented fiber networks.
  • Experience with Extreme/Enterasys switches and routers and Aruba wireless required.
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems (knowledge of MAC OS and Linux helpful), PC hardware setup, networking technologies, and devices including Ethernet and TCP/IP.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and logical troubleshooting methodology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to maintain a professional demeanor.

Reporting: This position reports directly to the Director of Network Systems and Services and requires collaboration with the Help Desk and other campus departments as necessary.
