What we are looking for:

Xwing is seeking an experienced Detect and Avoid (DAA) Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and certification of a DAA system for Xwing's Uncrewed Aircraft Projects.

In this role, you will directly support architecting, building, and certifying complex DAA solutions to enable safe operation of a fleet of autonomous aircraft. As a technical lead for DAA systems, you will have responsibilities for all aspects of the project, from strategic architecture decisions to hands-on testing in the field. You will be working alongside a world-class Engineering team to bring to market the first Uncrewed Aircraft System for general aviation aircraft.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Define the DAA system requirements for uncrewed aircraft projects
  • Provide technical trade-studies and analysis to help down-select potential DAA architectures
  • Represent Xwing with regulatory agencies and develop relationships to achieve certification of the DAA system.
  • Draft, update, and maintain regulatory documents as relevant to the DAA system
  • Work across the organization to define and coordinate the design, build, and test of the DAA system

Required qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with DAA system design
  • Experience working on aircraft programs
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines
  • Good understanding of system design principles

Desirable qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience designing and testing DAA systems on mobile platforms (preferably aircraft)
  • Experience in obtaining airworthiness certificate for non-conventional or novel products
  • Experience with autonomous or highly automated systems
  • Experience with industry DAA standards such as DO-365 and DO-366,
  • Experience with industry systems engineering and safety processes such as ARP4754A and ARP4761

Compensation & Benefits:

Base salary range is $150K/yr - $235K/yr.
