We seek a versatile and adaptable Senior Data Engineer who excels in a startup atmosphere. You demonstrate substantial expertise in data engineering practices, including handling extensive datasets in a Python/SQL environment. Moreover, you possess hands-on familiarity with the latest data programming techniques, data structures, distributed DBMS, and DB modeling and access languages.
Your capacity to design and develop pipelines will directly contribute to the enhancement of our data-centric solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and stakeholders to devise and implement data-driven solutions that transform transportation systems.
- Architect and build scalable and effective data pipelines and ETL processes to gather, process, and store large data volumes, with a vital role in framing the processes and foundations of our Data Engineering endeavors- Enhance database structures and data models for performance efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain data quality and integrity through data validation and cleansing methodologies.
- Establish governance policies, processes, and controls to safeguard the integrity, quality, and security of data assets while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Utilize cloud computing infrastructure to scale data pipelines adequately while optimizing cost efficiency and speed.- Explore and assess emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to refine data engineering processes.
- Quickly adapt to evolving requirements and priorities in a startup setting.
- Mentor and steer junior engineers, fostering a culture of ongoing learning and development in the team.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with product and business targets.
- Drive innovation and brainstorming sessions to tackle transportation engineering challenges and devise cutting-edge solutions.
- Employ modern tools and solutions to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of our software development procedures.
- Ensure the team meets challenging deadlines and consistently delivers top-notch software solutions.

Required Skills & Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Over 7 years of experience in data engineering, ideally within a startup or fast-paced setting, with prior leadership experience
- Proficient in SQL for DDL operations, DML operations, data architecture, among others
- Proficient in Python and Jupyter for exploratory data analysis, scripting, dataset aggregation, collaborating with data scientists/GIS developers, etc.
- Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms like Snowflake and AWS
- Familiarity with DBMSs such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
- Knowledge of extracting, analyzing, and mapping geospatial data and GIS systems
- Familiarity with distributed systems and big data technologies such as Apache Spark
- Awareness of data visualization concepts and tools
- Effective problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Strong communication and collaboration aptitudes
- Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities
- Enthusiasm for learning and staying abreast of the latest trends in data engineering and tech
