Job Summary and Qualifications

The Cardiovascular Quality Coordinator is responsible for the program development, planning, implementation, assessment, coordination, maintenance and process improvement of a comprehensive chest pain, PCI, and cardiovascular surgery program that complies with national standards for quality of care as dictated by the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and The Joint Commission.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Provide support functions for all aspects of the cardiac programs.
  • Collaborates with other members of the hospital team to facilitate a multidisciplinary quality assurance review of the care of cardiac patients.
  • Collaborate with nursing management and staff nurses to define, guide, and evaluate nursing practices in the provision of cardiac care; including creation of policies and procedures related to cardiac care and clinical research.
  • Serve as a nursing consultant to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinates and schedules monthly PCI and cardiovascular surgery committee meetings, including but not limited to PCI meeting, cardiovascular service line meeting, cardiology M & M, and cardiac surgery M & M.
  • Researches other cardiac systems in practice to develop and test relevant theories in providing better patient care.
  • Assists in data abstraction from medical records into established cardiovascular registries/databases, according to established criteria for entry.
  • Submits data to registries/databases within established time frames.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of the ACC-NCDR Cath/PCI and ICD registries, Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database, and other service line registries/databases as applicable.
  • Monitors data integrity, and validity.
  • Analyzes registry data on cardiac patients to identify trends for strategic planning and performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with clinicians (physicians, physician assistants, residents, perfusionists, and cardiac cath lab colleagues) to assure accurate data collection and optimal documentation, including but not limited to the utilization of risk assessment tools, proper time out utilization, and proper use of order sets.
  • Provides morbidity and mortality data to the individual cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons.
  • Serves as the clinical liaison with the ED physicians, providers, and staff to ensure the proper use of clinical alerts, risk assessment tools, accurate data collection, and optimal documentation.
  • Actively communicates with members of the cardiology and cardiovascular surgery team to ensure accurate and timely data capture in response to criteria.
  • Ensures confidentiality of data capture, consistent with departmental standards for information privacy.
  • In collaboration with physicians and hospital leadership, identify and coordinate improvement efforts based on outcomes reporting.
  • Provides regular communication of results and initiatives via reports, memos, emails, stake holders (physicians, hospital leaders, and quality committees).
  • Participates in regular meetings regarding database reports and information; provides knowledgeable feedback and response to data issues.
  • Serves as the educational liaison with EMS, including but not limited to assisting with case presentations and feedback outside of and during EMS monthly conferences.
  • Works with administration to resolve financial inefficiencies and reduce cost.
  • Assists with appropriate in-house research studies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain clinical competency skills
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective quality program
  • Interface with all hospital physicians affiliated with cardiac care
  • Work closely with cardiologists, CVT surgeons, and medical staff leadership

Qualifications:

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN, MSN or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience with, and knowledge of invasive and non-invasive cardiology procedures strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Program Coordinator or Performance Improvement/Quality Coordinator preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 recent years experience in Cardiac nursing (critical care, cath lab, CV surgery) preferred.
  • Basic computer and hospital informatic skills: Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with ACC-NCDR Cath/PCI and ICD registries and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission Core Measure requirements, Chest Pain Center Accreditation requirements.
