About the Role:
The role of the resident physician is focused on acquiring the necessary training to develop into a proficient physician. Throughout this training process, the resident will be responsible for managing patient care with oversight from attending physicians in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Performance evaluations will be conducted regularly following the evaluation guidelines. The resident is expected to meet MercyOne's performance standards and carry out all designated services and related responsibilities aligning with MercyOne's Mission, Vision, and Values.

  • Fulfill duties corresponding to each rotation as outlined by the rotation objectives and goals.
  • Engage in all educational conferences, lectures, grand rounds, as scheduled by the program director.
  • Adhere to the on-call schedule set by the program director.
  • Develop a personal learning plan to nurture ongoing professional advancement under the guidance of the teaching team.
  • Actively participate in the educational and scholarly initiatives of the program and, when necessary, take on the responsibility of teaching and supervising other residents and students.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of GMEC, department, MercyOne, and medical staff regulations, including complying with duty hour restrictions and accurately documenting hours in the New Innovations Software system.
This involves observing safety protocols and maintaining safe work practices as per OSHA and Foundation guidelines.

  • Ensures a secure work environment and follows safe practices in alignment with OSHA and Foundation policies and training.

Diagnosing and managing diseases, disorders, and injuries is a core aspect of the role.
- Conducting and interpreting results of comprehensive problem-focused medical history and physical examinations.
- Performing and analyzing relevant diagnostic tests.
- Coming up with an accurate diagnosis or differential diagnosis.
- Creating and executing a suitable medical or surgical treatment plan.


  • Evaluating and managing the patient's overall medical condition.
    - Conducting and interpreting detailed medical history and physical examinations (including pre-operative assessments).
    - Formulating an appropriate differential diagnosis for the patient's medical issues.
    - Identifying the necessity for additional diagnostic tests, when warranted.
