Custodial Team (Janitor/Housekeeper)

The Custodial Team is accountable for daily general cleaning of all common areas and side-work in designated areas. This team assists in ensuring a great environment when members are using the facilities. Responsibilities include replacing paper products and soap in restrooms and common areas. The team interacts with members politely when they request cleaning services, always striving to maintain high standards similar to one's own home. Additionally, they perform tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, window washing, dusting, and trash removal using safe cleaning methods. The ultimate goal of the YMCA Custodial Department is to collaboratively maintain a clean and safe facility for members, staff, and visitors.

  • Salary: Starting at $16.00 hourly
  • Job Summary: The Custodian II is responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas, completing duties with minimal supervision. Tasks include mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and general cleaning. The incumbent prioritizes member service while embodying YMCA core values.
  • Essential Functions:
    • Complete all duties listed on the daily schedule
    • Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment
    • Perform janitorial duties including wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, etc.
    • Record and report all repairs
    • Ensure building security
    • Operate cleaning equipment
  • Qualifications:
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
    • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals
    • Willingness to learn and share cleaning methods
  • Work Conditions:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Work at heights up to 30 feet
    • Handle various chemicals and solutions
    • Perform tasks in different climates
    • Safely operate cleaning equipment
    • Ability to respond to emergencies

Relationships: This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor who reports to the Executive Director. Collaboration with staff ensures cleanliness standards are met.
