Overview

We are seeking daily and PRN (on-call) caregivers for the care of a person in Arlington, Texas. Our goal is to have a person who works weekdays and another who works weekends, plus myself as a backup and general supervisor with PRNs we can call when we need coverage. We can't guarantee how frequently work will be available for the PRNs, but they will play a vital role in providing relief when our daily caregivers need time off.

Our goal is to find people who already have work, especially in the caregiving field or in fields that allow flexibility in their schedules. This is likely a job someone would take as supplemental income, not primary employment.

We are looking for people with some background or current experience in caregiving, especially in an in-home environment or with people who are mostly or fully bed-bound. We have had people working for us who had experience in facilities as well as home care.

Please note that we are not hiring directly. Pay for this position is provided by insurance through a caregiving agency. If we bring you in for an interview and decide to add you to our roster, you will need to sign up with the agency. If you are already with a different agency, you will still need to sign up with the agency we use. Yes, you can work for multiple agencies at once.

Daily Caregivers

​Generally, we have divided daily caregiving into two roles—weekdays and weekends . However, this is a flexible arrangement depending upon the availability of our applicants. Our expectation is to hire one to three daily caregivers.

PRN (on-call) Caregivers

PRNs will be called or texted when our daily caregivers are not available. Sometimes this happens with advance notice. Sometimes notice will be same-day. When a shift becomes available, it will be given to the first PRN who is able to take it. Our expectation is to bring on up to three individuals to serve as PRNs.

Pay

Given the hiring logistics described above, we do not determine how much this position pays. Pay per hour is determined by state standards, the insurance company, and the caregiving agency. Base pay generally starts at around $10 per hour with higher rates possible based on experience and certifications. We have had caregivers earn as much as $14 per hour. We know your skills are worth more than that, but it's not up to us.

Hours

Shifts generally need to be morning and afternoon, though there is some flexibility as needed. An average shift is five to six hours, though they can be longer depending upon the client's needs. We have 42 hours available each week for all caregivers.​ Each person will be responsible for their percentage of those 42 hours.

​Responsibilities

Responsibilities for these positions include daily laundry, incontinence care, food preparation, cleaning, skin care, bed changing, in-bed bathing, companionship, and some errands. Daily caregivers and PRNs must have their own reliable transportation. Experience working with bariatric needs is a plus.

The client has two cats. They are calm and friendly and often hide, at least at first. Caregivers will need to feed the cats daily and change the litter pan twice per week. We understand that not all caregivers will be able to handle the litter pan, so we schedule changes so they fall to caregivers who are willing. This is not a service most caregiving agencies cover. But it is a required part of caring for this client. It is understood between us and our caregivers that the agency is not responsible in any way for the cats.

The client, who is essentially bed-bound, is intelligent, articulate, kind, and a gentle soul. She also has particular interest and expertise in science fiction, model kits, space travel, and other nerdy interests. She has congestive heart failure and needs help managing her fluid intake as well as assistance with sitting up and lying back down.
