Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced 2nd shift Heavy Inspector. You will be responsible for inspecting manufactured and purchased product items, in-process operations and items, samples, purchased materials, setup conditions, process materials, controls, and records to assure conformity to operating, design and quality standards. You will also Identify, and document accepted conditions as required and substandard items or processing to prevent the use of defective materials or products. You will use measuring instruments, gages, aids, and specially designed testing apparatus. Assignments usually involve routine procedures and/or multiple pieces and /or repeated tests. Work in all manufacturing, inspection, testing or other assigned areas.

Onsite: This position will work onsite at our Troy, OH Landing Systems Headquarters. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

2nd Shift Monday- Friday 3:00p.m.- 11:00p.m.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Receiving assignment of manufacturing area, inspection area, or for inspection of specific items or processes.
  • Familiarize self with product or process, requesting assistance if needed.
  • Obtain applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards and inspection instructions.
  • Obtain necessary inspection equipment and assure that the equipment is and remains in, reliable condition and is calibrated if applicable.
  • Inspect production machine and process setups when applicable using first production pieces, setup pieces, shift samples, etc. according to checklists, blueprints, routings and standards.
  • Inspect manufactured products, purchased samples, materials and parts, control samples, processes, or test data for conformity to blueprints, specifications and standards.
  • Report inspection results and substandard conditions on appropriate forms or computer.
  • Identify product items as accepted or dispositioned. Inform supervision of abnormal situations. Arrange item transport if necessary.
  • Return inspection equipment and material to storage upon completion of task. Maintain clean, safe, and orderly workstation.
  • Attend and participate in quality-related training activities and department meetings as provided by management to maintain or update skills necessary for proficient job performance.
  • Perform such other Quality Assurance oriented duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, machines, auxiliary equipment, and common ground in cell/area utilizing appropriate equipment, so as to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment. Check and maintain operating levels of fluids and required machine materials such as, but not limited to, rotoburr stones, coolant, filter paper, shot, etc. Move material between workstations and cells/areas as dictated by the manufacturing cell/area configuration and the nature of the part (by hand truck, hoist, robot assist, etc.).
  • Oil machines as needed utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Retrieve items from tool crib and complete forms/transactions as required.
Physical requirements:
  • Wearing of all personal protective equipment as required.
  • In addition to the items subsumed in the job duties above, it should be noted that this position. Requires substantial reaching and moving while standing; lifting to 35 pounds; twisting; stooping; and response to sounds associated to the work environment.

EHS Requirements:
  • Adherence to all EH&S roles and responsibilities as stated in manufacturing work instructions and EHS policies and procedures is required.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a high school diploma.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
  • Capable of performing mathematical calculations requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division and pass pre-employment qualification tests.
  • Experience utilizing oral and written comprehension and understanding of technical documents including but not limited to routings, blueprints, Engineering process specifications and written work instructions.
  • Near vision in one or both eyes corrected to 20/25 or better, checked once every two years. Color vision test normal one time only.

  • Previous aerospace experience
  • 1+ years' experience CNC experience
