Position Description

Be part of an exciting opportunity by joining Serco as a Mid-Level Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) General Engineer. In this role, you will play a key part in evaluating, managing the design, construction, testing, and delivery of HM&E equipment for new amphibious ships, as well as maintaining existing fleet assets.

Our team, led by experienced Program Managers, works closely with professionals in the Defense and Shipbuilding Industry. This position is reliant on obtaining and upholding a DoD Secret level clearance post-employment.

As part of Serco's Naval Acquisition and Sustainment Operation, within the Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) business, you will provide essential services to the U.S. Navy, ensuring the success of various programs. Collaborate with Government and maritime industry professionals to contribute to the defense and safety of our military personnel. Our goal is to support our clients' mission objectives effectively and cost-efficiently.

In this role:
  • Assist the Government HM&E Manager in delivering new ships to the fleet and support acquisition programs throughout the life cycle. Responsibilities include:
    • Supporting the waterfront and addressing production and design issues.
    • Resolving technical challenges and participating in on-site meetings.
    • Researching, designing, developing, and overseeing the manufacturing and installation of HM&E equipment and systems.
    • Overseeing shipboard installations, repairs, testing, and commissioning activities.
    • Utilizing Configuration Management practices to maintain work product integrity.
    • Contributing to the development of technical documentation and ship specifications.
    • Collaborating with government and contractor personnel as needed.
Qualifications

To excel in this position, you should have:
  • Completed a professional engineering degree from an accredited college or university. Military or DoD experience can be considered if accompanied by relevant work experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard ship construction, repair, or maintenance.
  • A thorough understanding of shipbuilding processes, particularly Ingalls'.
  • Experience with configuration control and HM&E systems.
  • A current or the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Capability to work in shipyard or naval environments, including industrial field offices and onboard ships.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support activities.
  • U.S. citizenship.
Additional desired qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion, and Repair, USN, Gulf Coast (SSGC) operations.
  • Previous experience in HM&E, Merchant Marine, or Navy roles.
  • Knowledge of Amphibious warship operations.
  • Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act of 1990 (DAWIA) certification.
  • Experience in DoD/Navy ACAT I Programs.
