POSITION SUMMARY
The Medication Technician is responsible for providing medication services and direct resident care, contributing to a positive physical and psychosocial environment for residents. They also assist residents with daily activities, housekeeping, laundry, and other chores.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the operation of the medication room and medication services as instructed by the Health Services Director.
- Process physician medication and treatment orders following state regulations.
- Administer routine and non-routine medications as per physician orders.
- Complete treatments and monitor residents as required.
- Maintain accurate records of medication services provided to residents.
- Coordinate with pharmacies for medication orders and refills.
- Ensure all medication errors are reported following policy.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, pharmacies, and families regarding medication and care services.
- Provide direct resident care while respecting their dignity and independence.
- Assist with personal care services as per the resident's service plan.
- Follow fire safety and infection control practices.
- Assist in dining room operations and resident meal times.
- Support residents with lifting, moving, and transportation using proper techniques.
- Initiate emergency response procedures when necessary.
- Keep the medication room clean and organized.
- Attend training and staff meetings.
- Perform other assigned duties.
COMPANY WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate respect, integrity, commitment, and trust.
- Create a caring atmosphere for residents, families, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information.
- Ensure a safe working environment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum one year of personal care experience with older adults. Must have relevant certifications and training as per state regulations. Proficiency in word processing is required. Current CPR certification, First Aid training, and Food Handlers permit are mandatory. High school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
