RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is in charge of directing, administering, and monitoring the wellness program at Daggett Crandall Newcomb Home. This includes overseeing health, nutrition, dietary needs, daily activities, medication supervision, and assessing safety concerns of the residents. Additionally, they act as a liaison to families, physicians, nurse practitioners, health care agencies, and hospitals. The DON provides leadership to all direct care staff to maintain a positive and professional culture at the facility.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Awareness of aging issues and diverse populations.
- Understanding of grief and guilt experienced by family members.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Flexibility with work assignments and schedule changes.
- Team player with strong leadership qualities.
- Experience in managing personnel and ensuring quality care for clients.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Advanced degree in health services.
- 3-4 years experience with geriatric/dementia population.
- Minimum of 4 years supervising C.N.A.'s or Home Health Aides.
- Excellent organizational and clinical assessment skills.
- Familiarity with community support services and Assisted Living.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Nursing's duties include training and supervising direct care staff in daily living activities, hygiene, nutrition, and infection control. They are responsible for medication administration, health documentation, staff scheduling, and monitoring of medical issues. Additionally, they oversee emergency response plans, coordinate medical care for residents, assist with care planning, and ensure the well-being of residents.
Moreover, the DON participates in staff education programs, maintains inventory of medical supplies, and collaborates with other departments to manage the Nursing operating budget.
