UW CIPE is a University Center established in 2016 and being supported by the University Health Sciences Leadership Council (the UW Provost Office, and the Deans of the four health sciences schools; School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Veterinary Medicine).

Our Mission is to work collaboratively locally, nationally and globally to champion, integrate, and advance Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) to achieve the Quintuple Aim:
better population health, better patient care, better value, better provider work experience, and better health equity.


The Director will report to a health sciences dean (School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, or School of Veterinary Medicine) and the Health Sciences Council, which is comprised of the health sciences deans and chaired by the provost.


Responsibilities:

Principal duties:
A.

Provide general oversight and leadership to advance the Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CIPE) at UW-Madison and beyond to support the Wisconsin Idea.


Engage, build, and sustain partnerships with the health sciences schools/colleges, departments and programs across campus that educate students or residents who interact with human/animal patients.


  • Promote the necessary change in culture across the programs required for success of the Center.
  • With health sciences campus partners, revisit and create the next strategic plan to support near-term function and long-term advancement of a shared vision for interprofessional education to improve outcomes and meet accreditation standards for respective programs.
  • Provide oversight within the Center, including supervising and hiring of the Associate Director. Work with all CIPE staff to maintain and create a welcoming culture for employees.
  • Using feedback from multiple stakeholders, provide visionary leadership to promote the mission of the Center locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Lead efforts to seek funding for innovative interprofessional education opportunities and partnerships from sources such as school/college and university funds, state and federal funds, and private donors.
  • Serve on University, State, and National committees related to interprofessional education and practice.
  • Advance inclusive excellence and professionalism through operation and practice of the Center.
B. Provide leadership in interprofessional education (IPE)

  • Support programs to ensure IPE program components meet accreditation standards.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, lead the Center's efforts to build a full array of interprofessional education curricular elements in and among involved programs, including core and elective content and didactic, laboratory and experiential courses.
  • Facilitate development and support engagement in interprofessional co-curricular and extra- curricular elements.
  • Oversee interprofessional outreach activities including lectures, workshops, conferences, annual symposia, etc.
  • Collaborate with the outreach activities of involved schools/colleges as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, develop and oversee various assessment strategies at the student, faculty, and Center levels to demonstrate success.
  • Facilitate the negotiation and oversight of contracts and MOU's between schools/ programs as well as between outside organizations or government agencies.
  • Oversee the development and operation of a permanent data warehouse of validated IPE offerings and activities for the purposes of ongoing evaluation and assessment of IPE offerings and activities.
  • Along with the Assistant Director, serve as primary point of contact and representative for IPE to external stakeholders such IPEC, AIHC, other universities, etc.
  • Chair the Steering Committee and Advisory Council meetings (e.g., develop agenda, lead the meeting, and work to follow up on action items)
C. Engage and support faculty/instructional staff

  • Promote faculty/instructional staff participation in interprofessional education.
  • In collaboration with the Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP), coordinate and conduct training for faculty/instructional staff in the development of interprofessional instructional materials and methods.
  • Collaborate with Joint Accreditation and professional development programs within and across schools and colleges to develop, deliver, assess, and evaluate faculty and staff development in interprofessional education.
  • Work with schools/colleges to ensure instructional needs are met.
  • Respond to faculty/instructional staff concerns about interprofessional education.
  • Keep abreast of new developments and research in interprofessional education and share knowledge with faculty/instructional
The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.


The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the Health Sciences schools.

An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Terminal Degree

Terminal clinical degree (DNP, DPT, DVM, MD, MGCS, MPA, MSW, OTD, PharD, ) or other terminal degree (EdD, PhD)

Qualifications:
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

  • Strong leadership experience in interprofessional education and practice, healthcare institutions and/or graduate academic health education programs.
  • Expert knowledge of academic and healthcare disciplinary culture and practice.
  • Interprofessional education and practice experience (more than 3 years) in a healthcare and academic institution.
  • Experience with program development, management, and leadership.
  • Experience with local/state/federal funding agencies/foundations and grant writing.
  • Evidence of leadership and participation in interprofessional conferences, training, and/or research.


For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS or CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the Health Sciences school's guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS or CT Track.

The person hired would have to be eligible for an appointment in one of our health professions schools; School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy or, School of Veterinary Medicine.

Which specific hiring department within a health sciences school may be contingent on the finalist's area of specialty.

The person in this role would have 75% - 100% FTE as the CIPE Director and the remainder FTE spent on clinical or scholarly work as a faculty member within the following UW health sciences schools (Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine and Public Health, or Veterinary Medicine)

The person hired is required to have an active, no restriction license for the State of Wisconsin in their clinical field
