ASSISTANT GENERAL SUPERINTENDENTDEPARTMENT OF STREETS & SANITATION
  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Starting Salary: $99,456; Grade BX-20

Under direction, assists General Superintendent in managing the operations of a bureau responsible for infrastructure programs, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Participates in the planning and development of organizational objectives and program goals designed to improve work operations and the delivery of services to City residents.
  • Monitors and assesses field operations and prepares reports evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and productivity.
  • Oversees field supervisors to ensure the effective implementation of new and revised procedures and policies designed to contain operating and personnel costs.
  • Coordinates work activities with supervisors to monitor daily work activities, City events, and/or emergency situations and ensure work objectives are met.
  • Assists in preparing the bureau's operating budget, ensuring programs are adequately funded as required.
  • Works with departmental managers in implementing and managing new program initiatives relating to infrastructure improvements, sanitation services or forestry procedures.
  • Represents the department at community meetings to provide information on departmental programs and services.
  • Prepares management reports on project and program costs and productivity.
  • Oversees handling of personnel and union issues, as required.
  • Identifies, creates and implements strategies to improve workflow and productivity.

6:00am – 2:30pm, hours can vary as needed

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM CAREER SERVICE.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in surface transportation infrastructure, sanitation operations, towing operations OR forestry operations, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
  • Previous work experience in solid waste or recycling, water management, surface transportation infrastructure
  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software – such as Saleforce or Microsoft Dynamics
  • Previous work experience in positions directing, coordinating, and overseeing large scale infrastructure programs and projects
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software
