Summary:

To be considered for this role, it is essential that your resume clearly demonstrates adequate experience and/or educational background required to carry out the duties of the specific position you are interested in.

Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, encompassing volunteer activities through various programs such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other relevant organizations.

You will be given recognition for all qualifying experience, whether voluntary or part-time.

It is imperative that you outline the responsibilities and tasks undertaken in each role you have held, along with the total number of hours worked per week.


BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

NOTE:
For GS-13 candidates, application is only acceptable within a period of nine (9) months after meeting the licensure/3-year residency program prerequisites. However, proof of meeting these requirements must be provided and validated before commencement of duty.

Degree:
Medical graduates should have attained a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

The accrediting bodies acknowledged include the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or any other agency recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time of degree completion.

Degree from Foreign Medical School:

Foreign medical school graduates with a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree must demonstrate educational and medical expertise equivalent to U.S.-accredited institutions.

Evidence of equivalency to U.S.-accredited institutions can be established through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S.

Medical Licensing Examination.

For all grades and positions, candidates must hold a current, unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or any U.S. territory.

After obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have completed at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, such as a 1-year internship or the initial year of a residency program in a hospital or accredited institution for such training.

Internship, residency, and fellowship programs must be approved by recognized accrediting bodies in the U.S. or Canada.

Internship programs provide broad-based clinical practice where physicians gain experience in treating various medical conditions under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics).

Residency programs offer specialized medical field training in a hospital or institution accredited for that specialty by recognized bodies such as the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Fellowship programs entail advanced training beyond residency in a medical specialty, either in a clinical or research environment in a U.S.-accredited hospital or institution.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, candidates must fulfill the Minimum Qualifications below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-13: Must have completed 3 years of specialized training in the relevant specialty OR possess equivalent experience and training.

GS-14: Must have completed 4 years of specialized training in the relevant specialty OR possess equivalent experience and training.

In addition to the basic and minimum qualifications, candidates must also meet the Selective Placement Factor listed below. Applicants specializing in a particular area must meet either of the following as an agency-wide Selective Placement Factor. Applicants failing to meet this requirement will not be considered further. Being Board Certified in the relevant Specialty to which they are applying. OR Maintaining Active Registrant status related to the Specialty they are applying for. All qualification prerequisites must be met within 30 days after the announcement closing date.
