Overview Join the HJF Team HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.

Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. This position will be in support of Dr. David Burmeister's Lab, at the Uniformed Services University (USU), within the Department of Medicine.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting with, initiating, and carrying out preclinical research protocols of traumatic injury in collaboration with a research team.

Candidate will be responsible for examining the metabolic aberrations due to trauma, to potentially include studying alterations in the host microbiome, as well as the phenotypic shift in mitochondrial function of ischemic tissues.

Incumbent will be expected to disseminate interpretations from these experiments to the scientific community in the form of conference presentations and manuscript preparation and publication.

Single level position.

Responsibilities Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing animal protocols to include adherence to all regulatory and reporting requirements (IACUC) in support of the Principal Investigator.

Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.

Monitor, review and summarize safety and efficacy data for ongoing studies; represent exploratory development on project teams; develop relationships with appropriate consultants.

Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures to include ELISA assays, western blotting, and RT-PCR, as well as clinical assays of biochemical, coagulation and complete blood count readouts.

Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.

The incumbent will prepare for and conduct qualification, study initiation, interim monitoring, and work with Principal Investigator to ensure that visit metrics are maintained as required.

Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at University research seminars, oral and poster presentations at scientific meetings, and for publication in journals.

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Qualifications Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. Education and Experience Doctoral degree is required. Minimum of 0-5 years experience required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of appropriate scientific area. Ability to analyze and interpret data.

Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, independent individuals with exceptional laboratory and written communication skills with the ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team.

Experience with large animal models, trauma modeling, and/or assessments of kidney function preferred. Experience with molecular biological techniques, and/or primary tissue culture are essential.

Individuals with experience in large animal instrumentation, flow cytometry, histology and knowledge of immunology or upper urinary tract physiology are highly encouraged to apply.

Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check Physical Capabilities Lifting:
Requires lifting materials up to 5 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods. Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
