Responsibilities:

The Patient Collections Specialist is the primary source for managing patients delinquent accounts including sending patients to collections. This position will hold the responsibility of arranging repayment agreements with the patient and assisting in other parts of the billing office as needed.

  • Contact patients regarding outstanding co-payments, deductibles, coinsurances, etc.
  • Monthly submission of statements and collection letters.
  • Review and effectively communicate EOBs and denials to patients.
  • Process patient payments and or refund requests.
  • Use eligibility tools to check eligibility and explain benefits to patients.
  • Handles multi-line calls from patients with questions related to statements received.
  • Research & resolve outstanding claim issues as needed.
  • Capable of checking benefits through Availity, Navinet, and other payer website / portals.
  • Uses the organizations EMR system proficiently. E-Clinical Works experience preferred.

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable laws and regulations. PHI is a top priority of our organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years experience in Collections within a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to navigate and understand electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel.
  • Experience reviewing and understanding Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • Experience using collection agency portals.
