Position Overview

Working in home and/or community environments, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing quality one-on-one services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, aiming to fulfill their outcome statement as defined in the Individual Support Plan. Care may involve daily living activities and communication with the individual's multidisciplinary team.

Essential Job Functions
  • Professionally support adult or pediatric individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, promoting their emotional, physical, and personal well-being.
  • Implement strategies to help individuals achieve their desired outcomes as per the Individual Support Plan.
  • Complete documentation for the services provided.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Individual's Support Plan.
  • Report any changes in the individual's condition to the manager.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Help individuals become more independent by offering guidance, instruction, and role modeling.
  • Seek opportunities for individuals to engage in activities they enjoy.
  • Support individuals' preferences and interests.
  • Assist individuals in developing life skills such as interacting with others, cooking, housekeeping, budgeting, and personal hygiene.
  • Ensure the health and safety of the individuals.
Respite only requirements:
  • Household members over 18 must undergo criminal history checks for overnight respite services.
  • Provide homeowners/renters insurance proof for out-of-home overnight respite services.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Active driver's license and current automobile-related documents if transporting.
  • Willingness to support individuals in the community while respecting their rights.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Flexible availability.
  • Criminal Record and Child Abuse History Clearances.
  • FBI clearance for those not meeting PA residency requirements.
