Education
  • Graduate from an accredited sonography and/or imaging program.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
  • If you completed education in sonography in another country and hold current abdomen credentials from ARDMS or ARRT(S), with hospital sonography experience.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Sonographers working in Radiology ultrasound must be registered in the sub-specialty of abdomen or vascular sonography as a condition of hire.
  • If hired with a sub-specialty of abdomen, then vascular sonography sub-specialty must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.
  • If hired with sub-specialty of vascular sonography, then sub-specialty abdomen must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.
  • Sonographers working in Mammography must be registered by ARDMS or have ARRT.
  • If hired with ARDMS, then the breast ultrasound subspecialty RDMS(BR) must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.
  • If hired with ARRT(R), then the breast ultrasound subspecialty (BS) and mammography (M) subspecialties are required.
  • Sonographers working in high-risk OB/Gyn Sonography must be registered as a Sonographer by ARDMS RDMS (OB/GYN) within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card.
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate patient-centered behaviors.
Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound equipment for diagnostic scans and ensure optimal patient care.
  • Evaluate images for quality and follow imaging protocols.
  • Identify normal and abnormal anatomy and document accurately.
  • Maintain quality standards and patient safety during scans.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient records and data entry.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Prepare exam rooms and follow infection prevention practices.
  • Assist in training sonography students and onboarding new staff.
